It is news you never want to hear, however if you or a loved one receives a cancer diagnosis, it is good to know that support and advanced cancer treatment is available nearby.
At the Alan P. Lyss Center for Cancer Care and Clinical Research and Outpatient Infusion Center at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital, we are committed to providing patients with the best cancer care and support possible. We do this by offering the very latest in cancer treatment options and the most advanced cancer-fighting technology.
Dr Alan Lyss and Dr Atif Shafqat, oncologists/ hematologists have been providing optimal, state of the art cancer care to the Ste. Genevieve community and surrounding areas since 1992. These physicians care for cancer patients in Ste. Genevieve as part of a community outreach program through Missouri Baptist Cancer Center (MBCC), which is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). Only 63 community hospitals across the nation can boast this prestigious designation from the NCI. This means, because of Drs. Lyss and Shafqat’s affiliation with MBCC they can offer their Ste. Genevieve patients the same vast and critical benefits of the very latest cancer research trials and treatments.
The highly trained nursing staff in the Alan P. Lyss Center for Cancer Care is dedicated to supporting patients and their family through their cancer journey and beyond with compassion and valuable nursing skill and experience. We are proud that 100% of our nursing staff is Oncology Certified (OCN), and have decades of experience between them. Oncology nursing certification validates that nurses have met stringent requirements for knowledge and experience and are qualified to provide competent oncology care. This certification reinforces our nurses commitment to providing the highest quality to our cancer patients.
Your comfort and privacy is of significant importance to us. Each tastefully decorated patient suite in the oncology/outpatient department is private, with a comfortable recliner and television. We realize how vital support is from friends and family during difficult times. We encourage you to bring your support person/people along, and remain with you in your room during treatment.
In addition to exceptional cancer care, the oncology and outpatient department at SGCMH also provide an array of outpatient infusion and injection services. Some of those services include blood transfusions, IV hydration, IV antibiotics, infusions, injections, IV/central line catheter maintenance, and bladder instillations. Local physicians or any physician in the surrounding area (including Cape and St. Louis) can order outpatient infusion/injection services to be done right here at home.
