SGCMH Patient Portal Upgrade Starts on May 1

4/2/2024

Ste. Genevieve, MO - Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) has been providing the patient portal for over 10 years and now it is ready for an upgrade.

Beginning May 1, SGCMH will roll over to a new electronic medical records system and that includes a new patient portal with some major improvements.

“We’ll be getting a new electronic records system and some of the features of the SGCMH Patient Portal will be the ability to see and pay billing statements online,” said Schmieder. “In addition, patients can pre-register for appointments and complete any questionnaires before their appointment.”

Schmieder said the smartphone app will not change. Usernames and passwords from the current patient portal will move over to the new patient portal, however your health information will not.

“We encourage everyone to download or print any information in the patient portal that they would like to keep because you will not have access to that information after May 1,” she said. “You don’t have to re-register for the portal, but the information will not flow from the old portal to the new one.”

She further explained that your doctors, nurse practitioners and other medical staff will still have access to all of your health information. It will not disappear, only the patient’s access to that information through the portal will no longer be available.

Schmieder was quick to point out that the process to download health information is relatively easy.

1. Go to the hospital’s website (stegenevievehospital.org) and access the Patient Portal page.
2. Follow the step by step instructions to read or view a short video.
3. If you don’t have a printer or feel uncomfortable downloading the information, you can contact the medical records department now and even after May 1. If you need help downloading your information call 573-883-7793.

“We’re confident that users of the new patient portal will find it an even more convenient tool to better understand and manage their health,” said Schmieder.

The innovative platform has revolutionized the way you manage your healthcare, granting you easy access to your medical records and enabling seamless communication with your healthcare team.

With the patient portal, you are in the driver’s seat. No matter where you are – at work, on the road, or relaxing at home – you can effortlessly access your test results, message your health practitioner, and schedule appointments for yourself and your loved ones.

“The patient portal has been a great tool for patients and the numbers are steadily increasing and, people are using it,” said Judy Schmieder, director of Informatics at SGCMH. “Patients can view medication lists, immunizations, shots, allergies, lab and x-ray results, upcoming hospital and physician clinics appointments, as well as details from your visits.”

One of the most popular features of the portal is being able to securely message your provider any time of the day or night.

“This has been a great option for patients,” said Schmieder. “You can ask any questions between physician visits, in addition to requesting refills of medications that are prescribed by SGCMH physicians and nurse practitioners, and also request non-urgent appointments at the clinics. Patients really enjoy the convenience.”

Schmieder said proxy access – allowing parents to manage their children’s health or grown children to manage their elderly parents’ health has also been a great tool.
