SGCMH receives UHC Hero Award

3/10/2023

Ste. Genevieve, MO. Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) is pleased to announce that its physician practices have received the 2022 United Healthcare (UHC) Hero Award. The Healthcare Heroes awards program was created to honor and recognize individuals and organizations making a significant impact on the quality of healthcare.

Hirshell Parker, Executive Director of Quality and Risk Management, said the award is based on feedback from our patients, and that carries a lot of pride.

“I speak for the hospital when I say how proud we are of the work that our physician practices have accomplished,” he said. “In the quality world, care coordination, access to care, and communication are so imperative to the patient’s experience.”

Colleen Nickelson, RMA, LSSGB, clinical resource coordinator, said the award was presented to SGCMH for exceeding the expectations of patients who are United Healthcare Medicare Advantage members.

“Our care includes providing great patient interactions,” she said. “By working together, we can help ensure that patients’ perceptions surpass their expectations — across the entire continuum of care.”

Nickelson said SGCMH Physician Practices achieved target scores in three key patient areas: Getting Needed Care; Care Coordination; and Doctor-Patient Conversations.

Parker said, “Patients with better care experiences often have better health outcomes. A patient experience that builds trust in the health care professional correlates with patient satisfaction and improved outcomes in both disease management and prevention.”

The hospital’s Medicare UHC Representative, Cindy Veninga, CPC, CRC, AS, presented the award.

“We know how hard you work to maintain strong relationships with your patients,” she said. “That’s why we created the United Heroes program to show our appreciation for health care professionals who achieve high scores on patient experience surveys.”
