Ride to Survive Fundraising Event Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14

Three different levels of rides and a 5K walk/run.
Ste. Genevieve, MO – Ride to Survive is excited to return for its 13th year of raising funds for cancer care patients in Ste. Genevieve County sponsored by Mississippi Lime Company.
The fun-filled schedule of events for Saturday include three bike routes, 8, 15, 30-miles, and a 5K run/walk. Riders and walkers will go on scenic routes throughout Ste. Genevieve County starting at the Valle Dessert, 305 Merchant Street. Registration on the day of the event will begin at 7:30 am and the ride starts at 8:00 am. Participants will receive a fun swag bag!
“We’ll kick off the ride at the Valle Dessert, right in the heart of the community,” stated Terri Thomas, Foundation director. “Cyclists will encounter routes that cover beautiful countryside, but we’ll leave out a few of the hills. It’s still challenging enough for the die-hard riders, but doable for the casual rider.”
Participate as an individual or promote health and wellness at your home, workplace or school and encourage family and friends to join your team. For teams, each team member must register and sign a waiver.
All levels of bike riders, runners and walkers are welcome on these exciting routes created just for you! Participants can choose from the 5K Run/Walk or 8, 15 or 30-mile rides. Individuals must be 16 years old on event day. Younger registrants are allowed if accompanied by an adult. The cost to participate is $30 per person and includes a t-shirt. Participants can create a fundraising page and share their story. Share if you are participating in honor or in memory of someone. Set a fundraising goal and ask others to join them in reaching that goal. The online system will provide a link to share.
“Drs. Stein and Cavins along with our current oncologists and nurses, provide such a high level of compassionate care along with opportunities for clinical trials,” commented Sandy Schilli, BSN, RN, OCN, director of Oncology department.
“Our cancer center staff cares for our neighbors, family, friends, sisters and cousins—these are people that would do anything for you to make sure you get the best cancer care possible.”
The center is referred to as the “smallest cancer research facility across the country” as part of a community outreach program through Missouri Baptist Cancer Center (MBCC), which is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP).
“It is an honor to be a part of such a prestigious and quality program and offer optimal, state-of-the-art cancer care to our community,” stated Schilli.
Schilli also praised the many oncology patients who participate in clinical trials.
“Their willingness to participate is so important in advancing cancer care in many cases for themselves, but also for future patients with cancer who will benefit from the knowledge gained from current clinical trials.”
Proceeds from the Ride to Survive go to support the cancer patients at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital.
