Alan P. Lyss Center for Cancer Care and Clinical Research and Outpatient Infusion Center
It is news you never want to hear, however if you or a loved one receives a cancer diagnosis, it is good to know that support and advanced cancer treatment is available nearby.
At the Alan P. Lyss Center for Cancer Care and Clinical Research and Outpatient Infusion Center at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH), we are committed to providing patients with the best cancer care and support possible, by offering the very latest in cancer treatment options and the most advanced cancer-fighting technology.
Honoring the physician who has consistently shown his dedication in delivering excellence in cancer care to the community of Ste. Genevieve since 1992, the Alan P. Lyss Center for Cancer Care and Clinical Research was officially named and dedicated in November 2007.
Dr. Matthew Stein now oversees cancer care in Ste. Genevieve, continuing to offer the same optimal, state of the art cancer care to our community and surrounding areas. Our oncologist/hematologist cares for cancer patients in Ste. Genevieve as part of a community outreach program through Missouri Baptist Cancer Center (MBCC), which is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). Only 63 community hospitals across the nation can boast this prestigious designation from the NCI. This means, because of Dr. Stein's affiliation with MBCC he can offer his Ste. Genevieve patients the same vast and critical benefits of the very latest cancer research trials and treatments.
The highly trained nursing staff in the Alan P. Lyss Center for Cancer Care is dedicated to supporting patients and their family through their cancer journey and beyond with compassion and valuable nursing skill and experience. We are proud that 100% of our nursing staff is Oncology Certified (OCN), and have decades of experience between them. Oncology nursing certification validates that nurses have met stringent requirements for knowledge and experience and are qualified to provide competent oncology care. This certification reinforces our nurses’ commitment to providing the highest quality of care to our cancer patients.
Additionally in 2019, the nursing team was awarded the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Team Achievement Award. The ONS Pearl Moore "Making a Difference" Team Award recognizes small teams for outstanding contributions within their workplace in improving patient care, and/or making a difference.
Your comfort and privacy is of significant importance to us. Each calming patient suite in the oncology/outpatient department is private, with a relaxing environment. We realize how vital support is from friends and family. We encourage you to bring your support person/people along, and they can remain with you in your room during treatment.

SGCMH Research Programs/Clinical Trials
Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center and Heartland Cancer Research CCOP are working together to make top quality cancer care available to patients who live in rural communities. Together they are dedicated to reducing the incidence and subsequent mortality of cancer through a research program called the Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP).
Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital has been a member of the program for many years and has been deemed “the smallest cancer research facility in the country.”
The CCOP program has a solid foundation and has dramatically improved access of cancer patients to NCI-sponsored clinical trials of innovative new cancer therapies, cancer preventive strategies, and interventions to reduce the symptoms associated with cancer.
