Time off and Work-life Balance

Achieving balance means something different for everyone, whether it's going on vacation, meeting people with similar hobbies, or spending time with family and friends.

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
    This program combines traditional holidays, vacation and sick time into one account. By an employee’s seconnd year of service, they may accrue up to five weeks of PTO.
  • STIPP (Short Term Income Protection Plan)
    Employees who are absent due to personal illness may be entitled to time off with pay.  This plan allows employees to use sick time from this account. Employees accrue up to 14 days of STIPP a year.  A doctor's note may be required and limitations may apply.
  • Maternity & Paternity Leave
    SGCMH provides you with time off to welcome the birth or adoption of a child.
  • Long Term Disability Insurance
    If you are ill or injured, SGCMH pays for you to receive 60% of your monthly income under our long-term disability benefit. Employees have the option to buy-up additional long term disability benefits.
  • Funeral Leave
    In the event of a death in the family, SGCMH offers bereavement leave for the loss of family members. Also, bereavement pay is allowed for aunt/uncle or great grandparents. Some restrictions may apply.
  • Employee Wellness Program
    SGCMH offers incentives and a reduction in medical insurance premiums to help you find the programs, tools and support to make healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Leisure and Lifestyle Activities
    Discounted services are available, including cell phone monthly wireless service charge and data plans, Apple products, and rental cars to name a few.
  • SGCMH Cafeteria
    The SGCMH cafeteria offers employees discounted meal choices.
  • SGCMH Intranet Classifieds
    Employees have access to a free service for buying and selling personal items and services.

  • New Employee Orientation Program
    A general orientation program supports your transition into the SGCMH team.
  • Management and Employee Education
    A wide variety of instructor-led and online classes are available to support your educational development. Cultural Diversity training is required on an annual basis and for all employees. Employees are trained to deliver patient-centered care regardless of one's status.
  • Tuition Assistance and Loan Repayment
    Tuition assistance and student loan repayment provides up to $12,000 for you to pursue your education.
  • Clinical Ladder Program
    The Professional Advancement Program supports all clinical nurses pursuit of education or certification(s) that will enhance your career. Nurses can select from four levels of personal growth for additional monetary compensation.
  • Memberships
    You are encouraged to attend seminars, webinars and classes that will enhance your professional development. SGCMH encourages membership in associations if there is a benefit to you and SGCMH by increasing your skills.
  • Succession Program
    Performance evaluations were redesigned for employees to include professional and personal goals. You discuss your goals during the evaluation period with your Department Director. Management then communicates with HR and their Leadership representative to begin working towards your goals or interests.

  • Medical Insurance
    SGCMH medical plan is available to employees and family members, offering as low as a $0 deductible.
  • Prescription Drug Plan
    You'll receive pharmacy benefits if you're enrolled in our medical plan. Employees also receive a discount for over the counter drugs at SGCMH Pharmacy & BMC Pharmacy.
  • Additional Health Benefits
    SGCMH employees may select dental and vision coverage.
  • Discount of SGCMH Medical Services
    Eligible employees and family members receive a 50% discount on the balance of all inpatient and outpatient health care services billed by SGCMH. Our discount does not include a maximum or lifetime limit.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
    Create a flexible spending account to set aside pretax dollars for reimbursement of eligible health care and dependent care costs.

  • Employee Health Services
    To promote a healthy and safe work environment, SGCMH staff are available for confidential consultation on health problems of any kind. Employees can also receive free annual blood work during the month of their birthday.

  • Salary Program
    SGCMH administers a competitive and market reviewed salary program with annual increases, given satisfactory employee performance.
  • Retirement Plan
    SGCMH retirement plan will match 50 cents on the dollar up to a maximum contribution of 3% of the employee’s monthly wages. This is free money to you and is based on a 5 year vesting schedule.
  • Investment Opportunities
    As a SGCMH employee, you can contribute to a pretax 403(b), or post-tax Roth accounts. You have an opportunity to individualize your investment by contributing in several mutual fund options.
  • Insurances
    SGCMH has available short term disability insurance, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, along with other voluntary insurances for you and your family.
  • Employee Funded Plan
    TEAM MATES is a monetary fund overseen by employees for employees who are having financial difficulties. Any staff member who knows an employee that needs help can submit their name or if the employee his/herself needs help they can submit confidentially.

    A generous program recognizes employees' commitment for every five years of service. Recognized employees are announced and celebrated during the staff holiday party.

    Employees and a guest are invited to attend the annual Holiday party to enjoy an evening of dining, networking, and dancing.
  • Hospital Week
    At this annual spring celebration, employees, patients and guests celebrate the hospital’s history, culture and traditions with activities, gifts, lunches, and snacks.
