SGCMH Offers Babysitting and Home Alone Classes

May 27, 2025

Ste. Genevieve, MO – Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) is offering its popular Babysitting and Home Alone classes.

The Babysitting class will be held Tuesday, June 24, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Education Conference Room at the hospital.  This is a one-day competency-based program for youth who have completed at least the 6th grade. Topics covered include infant care, first aid, and handling emergency situations. The $20.00 registration fee include lunch and class materials. The class has a limit of 15-20 participants.  A second day will be added if the class is filled.  The second day is required to have a minimum of 10 participants.

“This course prepares novice babysitters for a safe and positive babysitting experience,” said Poston. “Participants will learn some universal skills and techniques that every babysitter should have.”

Both the Babysitting and Home Alone classes will be led by Instructor, Carol Emmett.

Home Alone classes will be on Thursday, June 26, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. in the Education Conference Room at the hospital. The class include discussions on safety, first aid and self-care and will help prepare children for the times when they will be home alone. Snacks will be provided. Registration fee is $10.

The morning class must be filled before an afternoon class is considered.  Classes will have a limit of 25 participants.  A second day will be provided if the first day is full.

“Staying home alone is often the first way children are able to show their independence,” said Tina Poston, SGCMH Director of Marketing and Community Relations. “But, it can be hard for parents to know when their children no longer need constant supervision. This class will help provide that confidence for parents and children.”
